青年荒井健史（妻夫木聪 饰）此前一直照顾姨婆多喜（倍赏千恵子 饰）的生活起居，多喜年轻时曾在东京帮佣，如今在健史的纠缠下，她提笔写下了陈年的悲喜往事。那要回溯到昭和初期，年轻的多喜（黑木华 饰）离开山形老家，几经辗转进入平井家担任女佣。平井家在东京郊区盖了一栋红色屋顶的小房子，男主人（片冈孝太郎 饰）是玩具公司常务，女主人时子（松隆子 饰）雍容美丽。多喜对时子充满敬仰，她更全心全意为平井家服务。某年春节，玩具公司新来的设计人员板仓正治（吉冈秀隆 饰）走进平井家门。相近的趣味和爱好让他和时子愈加投机。与此同时，战况日渐激烈，有情男女藏着彼此的秘密，随波逐流…… 本片根据中岛京子第143回直木赏同名获奖作品改编。。The subtitle of Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet’s first feature, from 1965, “Only Violence Helps Where Violence Reigns,” suggests the fierce political program evoked by their rigorous aesthetic. The pretext of the film, set in Cologne, is Heinrich Böll’s novel “Billiards at Half Past Nine,” which they strip down to a handful of stark events and film with a confrontational angularity akin to Bartók’s music that adorns the soundtrack. The subtlest of cues accompany the story’s complex flashbacks. The middle-aged Robert Fähmel tells a young hotel bellhop of persecutions under the Third Reich| his elderly father, Heinrich, an architect famed for a local abbey, recalls the militarism of the First World War, when his wife, Johanna, incurred trouble for insulting the Kaiser. A third-generation Fähmel is considering architecture, just as the exiled brother of Robert’s late wife, returns, only to be met by their former torturer, now a West German official taking part in a celebratory parade of war veterans. Straub and Huillet make the layers of history live in the present tense, which they judge severely. The tamped-down acting and the spare, tense visual rhetoric suggest a state of moral crisis as well as the response—as much in style as in substance—that it demands.。
